patchling
/ˈpatʃlɪŋ/
noun
- Speculative beings constructed by digitally collaging found images/memes and then printing them onto fabric. Patchlings are characters that shapeshift into the material, woven from selected images of the ‘monster’ that roam the digital.
- -ling is a play on Earthling, Sapling, Hatchling, and Darling. This suffix can have its origins traced back to Old Norse, where it was used to name the young of animals (gæslingr "gosling")
